Medicare Turns 46

This week marks Medicare’s 46th Anniversary. President Lyndon Johnson signed Medicare into law on July 30, 1965. Today, more than 137,000 South Dakotans have access to health care benefits because of the law.

So how has Congress opted to celebrate Medicare’s anniversary? By putting it on the chopping block. Congresswoman Noem and other Washington Republicans voted to end Medicare as we know it in order to protect tax breaks for the wealthy.

We must tell South Dakotans why Medicare must be preserved and strengthened for all future beneficiaries.
