Friends and Focus at SDDP Convention

Print PDF

2010_sddp_convention_6From all areas of the state Democrats came together to create our platform, nominate a full slate of Constitutional Candidates, prepare their campaigns, and strategize our year.  Our delegates were focused on their platform planks and creating a unified message for our party.  Old friends reunited and new friendships were made as 300 Democrats convened in Sioux Falls.

The delegates cast their votes to create a strong Democratic slate of state wide candidates

Scott Heidepriem and Ben Arndt for Governor and Lt. Governor

Julie Bartling from Burke for Auditor

Ben Nesselhuf from Vermillion for Secretary of State

Bob Pille from Pine Ridge for School and Public Lands Commissioner

Tom Katus from Rapid City for State Treasurer

Doyle Karpen from Union County for Public Utilities Commissioner

Ron Volesky from Huron for Attorney General2010_sddp_conv_klobuchar

The crowd was energized by a wonderful keynote from Sen. Amy Klobuchar.  Sen. Johnson, Congresswoman Hersesth Sandlin, and Scott Heidiepriem revved up all the old...and new Democrats!

Everyone had a great time and now we're hitting the streets.  It's Time to get to work.  It's Time to represent the people.  As McGovern said "many Republicans realized that a two-party structure was in the best interests of the State. Competition improved each party and meant that SD representatives in Congress would be more responsive to the state's needs"

Klobuchar to Keynote 2010 Convention

KlobucharIn addition to an exciting line-up of our statewide candidates that will speak at the 2010 South Dakota Democratic Party State Convention, the special keynote speaker for the event will be Sen. Amy Klobuchar.

Sen. Klobuchar was elected to the U.S. Senate in 2006, becoming the first woman elected to represent the State of Minnesota. She grew up in a strong Democratic family and served as chief prosecutor in Minnesota’s largest county before being elected Senator.  Klobuchar is a fierce advocate for consumer protection and renewable energy legislation, helping to pass laws keeping toxic products off our shores and out of our stores. She has been described by the Washington Post as a “rising star” and by the Star Tribune as “a fast-moving legislator with potential to become a party leader.”

Sen. Johnson, Congresswoman Stephanie Herseth Sandlin and Gubernatorial Candidate Scott Heidepriem will also speak at the Convention Dinner.  The public is welcome to attend the dinner with PURCHASE OF A TICKET before or at the door. Cost for the dinner is $50 for all attendees.  Tickets are going fast for our limited seating.  For those interested in attending, please contact the SDDP office (see contact information below).
