Message from the PenDem officers

We want to personally welcome all members and visitors to our webpage.  We are excited to be part of the South Dakota Democratic Party web  presence.

The Pennington County Democrats have 3 primary objectives:

1) Outreach to registered Democrats, Independents and progressive minded residents of Pennington County.

2) Recruiting and supporting our political candidates at all levels of government; city & county, school board, statewide and national offices.

3) Participating in the advocacy, debate and public conversations about issues important to our neighbors, the residents of Pennington County.

We also strive to have fun!  The annual events sponsored by the county party are:

  • Oktoberfest. October 11th from 1:30 pm to 5 pm featuring beer and brats.  Political discussion, laughs and gathering with our friends.  It will snow soon, it is time to party!
  • Central States Fair. Ten days in August.  Enjoy brats, cotton candy and carnival rides.  We take the time to meet and great Democrats and Republicans from western South Dakota.

The County party also participates in many statewide activities;

  • McGovern Days. An annual event, held in various locations around the state.  An opportunity to meet and socialize with Democrats from other areas.
  • State Party Convention. Held in even numbered election years.  We meet for a day to write the  party platform and select our statewide constitutional candidates.  True grassroots politics!
  • Black Hills Pow-Wow. Though not a Democratic Party event, for the past two years we have participated in  the He Sapa Wacipi, an impressive cultural event held annually at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center.

There are also numerous forums and town hall events throughout the year.  You can meet local, regional and national candidates, past and current members of congress and national political figures in our own backyard!

We hope to see you at our next event.  The greatness of our nation is a direct result of regular folks like you and me, taking the time to make a difference.  Let’s keep that legacy going!
