Resolution Rules

Any delegate to the South Dakota Democratic Party Convention may submit a resolution to the Convention, which will be considered on the floor of the Convention. Only delegates may submit a resolution.

Resolutions submitted must be typed and emailed to Deputy Director Joe Zweifel at joe@sddp.org or mailed to the SDDP office at PO Box 1485, Sioux Falls, SD 57101. They are due by Friday, May 22nd at 11:59pm CDT.

Resolutions will be taken up by the Convention following the Platform adoption.

The author of each resolution will have two minutes to present the resolution. Delegates will then be allowed speeches of up to one minute to speak in favor of or against the platform plank.

The Resolutions Standing Committee will review and edit all resolutions for style and form.

The Resolutions Standing Committee may determine that a Resolution is not germane to the work of the Convention and rule it out of order for the Convention.

It is highly recommended that no resolutions exceed one page in length.

In accordance with Article X, Section 8 of the SDDP Constitution, any amendment to a resolution proposed by a delegate shall be considered by the full body, as long as such amendment has been submitted in writing by 11:59pm on June 4, 2026. No amendments shall be accepted from the floor. The author of any amendment shall have one minute to present their amendment, and delegates will then be allowed speeches of up to one minute to speak in favor of or against the amendment.
