Ellis: Stifling Ballot Issue Backfires

Chairman’s Note: Republican legislators and corporate lobbyists have done everything in their power to secure taxpayer funded giveaways for big businesses. Last year, they took money from our general fund for a big business giveaway program. You cried foul and referred it to the voters. This year, they tried denying you a right to decide the fate of that bill by taking the referred law off the ballot. You jumped all over it, and Republicans backed away from the plan. You sent Republicans an important message: there’s a consequence for disregarding the right of voters to decide. And this time, Republican attempts to take away those rights backfired.
