On April 5-6, dozens of high school students from every corner of the state convened in Pierre for the first annual Young Elected Legislative Leaders (YELL) retreat, a mock legislative session and leadership development program for South Dakota’s future leaders.
Coming back to the state party office after YELL, I have one simple message: Fret not in the future of South Dakota. Our state is in good hands. Indeed, what I saw over the weekend were thoughtful students engaging in respectful dialogue, putting real state legislators on the ropes in committee hearings, and amending legislation to make South Dakota a better place for everyone.
Take a look at a few of the photos we put together. I promise you’ll see a future state Democratic leader in the midst.
