State’s decision not to expand Medicaid could affect 48,000

Chair’s Note: Putting a face to those who would benefit from the Medicaid expansion is an important part to changing the minds of opponents of the expansion. This article from the Rapid City Journal highlights a few of the “able-bodied” adults that would benefit from the expansion. A small business owner who can’t afford health insurance premiums, a little family trying to establish their careers, and a non-traditional, full-time student who can’t work 40 hours a week just to pay insurance at the expense of his education – these are some of the hard-working South Dakotans who would benefit from Medicaid expansion. As more stories are told, we hope that Governor Daugaard will listen to what they are asking for – a hand up, not a hand out.
