Are Municipalities Illegally Using Your Tax Dollars to Campaign for Referred Law 14?

Chairman’s Note: Democratic House Leader Bernie Hunhoff (D-Yankton) discovered something really unsettling today. In potential violation of state law, the South Dakota Municipal League, whose dues are supported by sales taxes and property taxes of member cities, supported Referred Law 14 with a full page ad on its front cover. Think about that – special interests are lobbying with your tax dollars in order to get more tax dollars! If you thought South Dakota was better than the machine politics we hear about elsewhere, think again. Some folks in Pierre have been in power so long, they just don’t see any problem with this scenario. Well, we have a problem with this, and f you do too, stand up with us and vote no on Referred Law 14.
