Drug Testing for Welfare Recipients Killed in Committee

Chairman’s Note: South Dakotans scored another victory this week after legislators voted down two bills that would have required TANF, SNAP, and some Medicaid recipients to take drug tests before they could receive state support. Stereotyping low-income South Dakotans in the name of fiscal responsibility is morally deplorable and, as a matter of fact, unconstitutional. We’re glad the legislature recognized that this week.
