Chairman’s Note: This week, six Republicans met in a dead-of-night, closed caucus in Pierre to forge a “compromise” on Governor Daugaard’s controversial education agenda. Let’s be clear. Proposed reforms from six Republicans dictating education policy represents neither a good-faith effort to compromise with all stakeholders involved nor a reasonable measure to improve student achievement. It’s time Republicans give up the education reform charade and instead focus on fixing the problems they created last year when they cut education funding by eight percent.
