Nesselhuf Statement on Daugaard Education Agenda

South Dakota Democratic Party Chairman Ben Nesselhuf released the following statement after Republicans in a closed-door committee released a so-called “compromise” on Governor Daugaard’s education agenda:

“These amendments neither improve student achievement nor represent the will of communities across South Dakota. No matter how you cut it, six Republicans in a dead-of-night closed caucus in Pierre just do not represent the will of all South Dakotans. It’s time Republicans give up the education reform charade and instead focus on fixing the problems they created last year when they cut education funding by eight percent.

HB 1234 contains the Governor’s controversial education agenda that has incited huge crowds in opposition at legislative coffees across the state. The House Education Committee meets Wednesday morning to hear testimony on the bill
