Chairman’s Note: Turns out, job creation isn’t the only thing Thune opposes. Last week, Thune also continued the Republican push to dismantle rules protecting workers’ rights to form a union. It astounds me what Republicans like Thune are willing to do to erode the earning power of workers in South Dakota. Already, South Dakotans earn lower average salaries than wage earners in any other state. In fact, South Dakota has the highest rate of households in the entire country where one person must work multiple jobs or both parents must work to make ends meet. Make no mistake – stagnant wage growth, reduced benefits and increased job insecurity are tied to Republican efforts to hurt organized labor. Indeed, Thune’s efforts to kill job growth is one thing. His efforts to kill whatever good paying jobs our unions defend is another dumbfounded thing entirely.
